Pantai Bias Tugel is the perfect place to enjoy a day or even just a few hours in secluded beauty, relaxing on the golden white sands. Located just 1.5 hours from the busy holiday area of Kuta Bias Tugel is one of Bali's lesser known though perhaps most beautiful beaches. |
What to Expect?

Bias Tugel Beach was once known as Secret Beach as in past years remained a secret to only locals. Recent time with high tourism in Bali has seen the popularity of this beach rise however its distance from central tourist areas, lack of accommodations within walking distance and somewhat hidden undeveloped entrance keeps it to be postcard perfect. All of this makes for a beautiful experience for those seeking a relaxing day away from the busy tourist destinations.

The beach's white sandy bay is perhaps 150 meters long is banked either side by black volcanic rocky sides. These make a beautiful contrast to the blues of the ocean and white sands under foot as well as providing rock pools and a small swimming hole. For swimming the beach is best in the morning as the waves and currents become stronger in the afternoons. Mornings also present snorkeling opportunities with equipment available for hire at the traditional style warungs on the beach.

The 4 traditional style warungs serve a good selection of all your Indonesian favorites including nasi goreng, mie goreng, curries, ikan bakar, and much more. They also have a good selection of drinks including fresh coconut and bintang beer. You may even wish to rent a sun lounge or have a massages to look out over the natural beauty of the area while always enjoying the renowned Balinese hospitality and smiling faces of the locals.
One of the interesting features of Bias Tugel is an abandoned hotel that was never finished just around the bay but still within view from the beach. The hotel while being off limits is regularly visited by tourists and can provide some interesting holiday photos.
How to Get There?
Bias Tugel beach is located approximately 1.5 hours drive from the central tourism area of Kuta very close to the well known Padang Bai port a common location tourists come to catch boats to Gili Islands.

Driving towards Padang Bai Harbor on Jalan Pelabuhan Padang Bai and then just before the Harbor gates take the left turn onto a smaller road called Jalan Penataran Agung. Follow this road for approximately 10 minutes where you will come to a left turn which leads to a parking area. A donation is asked here from the local banjar who control access to the beach.

The parking area is mostly only suitable for motorbikes though cars can park further back without any problem. From the parking area walk down the staircase with stone walls either side where you will find a doorway in the wall on your left. On our last visit the sign was missing however there is just the 1 doorway entrance so enter here do not continue down the rocky eroded area where the path leads.

Entering through the doorway you will follow a well worn path through forest or scrub-lands that works its way down to the beach. The path is quite good for Bali standards however there is some areas where it is steep due to erosion that would cause difficulties for elderly or those with physical limitations. Continue along the path for about 5 - 10 minutes and you will have arrived at the beautiful Bias Tugel Beach.
